With strong winds forecast all over Scotland on Saturday 19th we decided to paddle Emma, our small dragon boat on the canal.

After a briefing for new paddlers, we set off towards Ratho focussing on timing to keep the boat stable in the wind.  It sure was windy!   Jelly babies had to be passed round twice to keep us going! Everyone dig deep and the new paddlers did well in some challenging conditions.

Arriving back at the sheltered waters of Bridge 8 paddlers said:

“It was challenging but fulfilling!”

“Paddling is like chicken soup for the soul”

“Found out I can paddle on the right – will do it again!”

“Enjoyed my first paddle – hope you’ll have me back”

“Serene & enjoyable”

“Beautiful when the sun came out”

“We dodged a canal boat”

“I love the encouragement from people walking along the canal”

“Missing those who can’t be with us today”

“Locking the container was my biggest challenge today!”
